World Design Capital Cape Town.

Cape Town is changing and is doing so for the best of the country and the world. On the 21st of May 2013, PRISA (Public Relations Institute of South Africa), had a gathering at the City hall in Cape Town. Many members of the board came to attend this meeting as well as fourth year Public Relations students from Cape Peninsula University of Technology(CPUT).

An intriguing talk was made by A. Ranzburg, who is the C.E.O. of World Design Capital in Cape Town and was the guest speaker of the night . In her speak she spoke of how the organization seeks to put design thinking and design to life. She explained how the world design capital intends to demonstrate making design tangible and how it changes life.

World Design Capital Aims..
This is a life changing organization as it shows a whole different meaning to the term "design". It allows the world to see how design is not only a visual impact, but it also has a social impact as it makes a change to the community. They intend to host their first launch at the grand parade on the 1st of December 2013. It would be ideal if one is interested in making a change in their community, society, country or the world.

FAVOURED: Time and Social media profile.

FAVOURED: Time and Social media profile.

Time and Social media profile.

The question remains if whether or not companies are making good use and being of importance in creating social media profiles. The good thing about social media profiles is that it allows the customer or client to stay in touch with their organization, brand or company via the touch of their fingers.
The world in which we are living today is rapidly turning into a technological atmosphere. Everything is now done through the internet. Most companies such as Oglivy have solely taken Public Relations traditional form of marketing to a digital marketing platform.

There are some companies that are well profiled, companies with great statuses, so much that having a social media profile will not be necessary. Companies such as Apple, Maserati, Mecerdes and Vodacom to mention but a few, these are companies that have well established profiles from the physical form of their market and their websites can speak for them on the technology note.
Although, there are companies who need profiles on social media to enable them to reach a greater market, companies such as CellC, a telecommunications company in Zimbabwe called Netone, which needs a social media profile. This is because they fail to inter-act actively with their clients and this reduces their chances of being well marketed.
A company that has benefited from social media is that of Shift social design investigation. This organization assists in giving a platform to individuals who aspire to be graphic designers in future. It allows them to post their work on the organizations facebook page and the piece of work to get the most “likes”, gets opportunity to showcase their talent.

However, there are some companies that use social media for the wrong reasons. It appears as if MTN manipulates its clients by advertising that its blackberry internet service is free and yet when you try to use it, you are supposed to pay a certain fee for you to be connected. This is deceitful and they lose customer loyalty which is not their main goal after all. This goes no to show that not all companies need social media profiles, because of their statuses, however if they do have them they should insure that they make good use of them rather than abuse them.

VersuS

.. Now everyone has been wondering who goes back to the social media pitch holding the cup of being the most favorable people's option. Well, with the time I have used these platforms, I have identified a few similarities and differences between the two applications and my "BATTLE" begins below...

With layout, both TweetDeck and HootSuite have similar layouts. They use dashboards with separate columns for you to organize your streams, @mentions, messages, tracked hashtags and so on. You can add as many columns as you want to either platform and scroll from side to side to view all of them.

Now to look at them individually,Tweetdeck advantages are that TweetDeck will only connect to Twitter profiles, Facebook profiles or Facebook pages. You can connect an unlimited number of Twitter or Facebook accounts, but if you also want to update Google+, Tumblr, Foursquare, WordPress or anything else, you won’t be able to do it with TweetDeck. It allows photo tweeting, twitter interface and user feature.

However Hootsuite allows one to update profiles other than facebook and or twitter. HootSuite makes it very easy to peruse into your followers and the people you are following to see who the influencers are in your Twitter network. Hootsuite has its own advantages namely that it has the ability to schedule tweets, updates faster, provides robust statistics, allows for the incorporation of additional social networks and allows more multiple accounts to be controlled by multiple users.

But which one is best? I’ve used both, and while I wouldn’t say that one is better than the other, they both offer a variety of different options which are suitable according to your flair of social media pose.

TWEETDECK

NO!! it's not TWITTER it's TWEETDECK. It is a kind of desktop application that helps you to manage your twitter feeds easily. TweetDeck is a very easy to use twitter application, made for sharing photos and videos. You can simply track the current conversation that is going on and catch-up. It nicely arranges everything in column base where you can see list of followings and followers. It is ideal to promote ones self through twitter and is a powerful tool for bloggers to publish with. It is advanced as it comprises of a web version of the application. The application provides you simple interface to manage multiple columns. You can add up a number of people on the list and check tweets every now and then. The application also supports the feature of short url. Which some individuals would find "TOTALLY COOL". Imagine using your Facebook and Twitter on just one interface?, that would be a relieve and instead of setting your twitter account to share or connect to Facebook, Tweetdeck does it for you with no hustles. Technology seems to be moving in a right and justifiable direction..

Hoot and Suite

Obviously it's not only me who has been wondering what on earth this social network that has surprisingly become a giant is?. What does it do that is so "GIANT" ?. It's all about HOOTSUITE. Just a clear understanding of what it really is..? Well, I i do not mind telling :). HootSuite is a social media management tool that allows users to update and post any pages or profiles for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Foursquare, Myspace, WordPress. Mixi and others from one place. It's ideal for the individuals that spend most of their time on social media platforms with a lot of profiles to take care of. Through having Hootsuite, life is made easier and manageable for them, thus saving time for other extra curriculum activities. Basically here is how it works: If you’re posting the same thing across five profiles, you can post it once through HootSuite and select the profiles where you want it published, and it will publish it on all five profiles at once. So what better way to do so many things at different intervals than to just do it all at once? :)

Changing US..

Technology has taken a dominant post in our today's 21st century. It is now governing the way in which we communicate as individuals. Slowly, the art of personal, face-to-face communication is wilting as technology communication shoots and blooms into the form that many are relying upon. For instance the youth. Technology has taken the best of their growth. With these new gadgets, iPad and ipods and the social media that has taken them by storm, life for them has never been any better. I remember when I grew up, we went outside to play, we had mind games and books. Items such as computers and cellphones were not toys till we were exposed to them by our parents or during computer lessons at school. This meant that we had time to personally communicate and create bonds, we had time to visit each other as friends and maintain relationships. We were able to listen and give help were needed. However, the children of today. Growing up for them is done through technology. Chat platforms such as Whatsapp, twitter, mixit and nimbuzz to mention but a few have generated a lifestyle via the phone. Now friends hardly ever visit or are visited, if they go out, they are mostly focused on their phones than on their friends. At the end of the day parents ask " how is your friend Jeff?" we respond by "they are okay" or are they?. They way technology has just replaced communication among the youth has not just assisted in destroying friendships and relationships, but it has also added to the writing communication done by students. A topic on PR news online grabbed my attention as it noted how social media is affecting the Public relations industry in their writing, considering it is their backbone. http://www.prnewsonline.com The article goes on to note the unnecessary grammatical errors done in writing such as "it's" and "its", "receipt" and "reciept" "who" and "whom", all are being misused. this in turn does not give the individual a good post and gives a bad reputation to the company. It is therefore of great need to read more, ask more and write more, is what I would recommend. This could in fact improve our writing ad enhance our innovative self. We can use social media platforms, but let us not allow it to control the rest of our being. Already we are fighting to save the world and ourselves by living according to its rules and regulations, governed by those in control and most of all mother nature. As for this technology (social media) that we are able to control the, only war for us to fight for is to be ourselves, because everyone else is taken.
